Winter Reads!

Winter Reads!

Winter is here.

It's winter hiatus for the majority of television shows (excluding mid-season shows, Netflix, and Amazon Prime shows of course), so it's a great time to snuggle up with a good book!

Below, I've included some recent books that dropped in 2017, one that debuted a while back, and a couple that are getting a January and a February release! I also have a few bonus books to add to your list if it's your jam! So grab your hot latte (or cup of hot chocolate), blanket, and see below for my winter reading list!

Joy, Happiness, & the In-Between

Joy, Happiness, & the In-Between

Joy and happiness.

What causes joy? Can you make yourself happy?

JOY is internal and I believe it manifests from knowing who you are, making peace with that, and your purpose here.

HAPPINESS comes in all forms -- and it's risen up by something good happening to us or around us which then triggers a happy feeling, if we let it.

Happiness is more temporary than joy.

I personally think both of these, intertwined, are essential for a healthy lifestyle -- a healthy journey.

I wanted to share with you a few blurbs, quotes, and thoughts I've recently read... and a couple I hold dear to my heart... that I hope will inspire you... to help you find and keep the joy burning! And I hope they will inspire you to take more chances with your happy!

Movies in October!

Movies in October!

October is here and it's kicking awards season off rather nicely -- and it's also pretty jam-packed! There's a very nice selection of dramas -- which includes a couple of "based on true events" ones -- a classic book thriller adaptation (that I mentioned in my Fall Reads post), and a highy anticipated (and long-awaited) sequel to a classic epic! I have my usual "maybes" too...that I'm sure some of you might enjoy and a mini list of "if that's your jam" as well!

So (as I always say) let's get to it! Here's what I plan on seeing (and hopefully you can catch a couple of these too) in the theater this month!!

Fall Reads!

Fall Reads!

The leaves are starting to fall and the temps are (hopefully) starting to drop a bit.

Our fall shows are back on tv -- but it's also the best time of the year (well, let's be honest, anytime is the best time) to snuggle up and get lost in a good book -- even with all of the hustle and bustle that may come along with school and work! :) Whether you enjoy reading scary novels this time of year or thrillers or romance -- or something in between -- fall is a good time to catch up on that book you've been putting off or have been wanting to read!

Below, I've included a few new ones that just dropped and a bonus one with a film adaptation coming out this month (which will be included in my Movies in October post this upcoming week)! So -- nevertheless -- below are the novels I currently have on my fall reading list...

Summer Reads!

Summer Reads!

Summer is a great time for big blockbuster films, but it's also a great time to catch up on some good, fun summer reads -- to slow things down and let your imagination take over by reading a great novel!

Whether you're at the beach or on vacation...or on a plane or lounging around the house...or just hanging out at the local park -- you can never go wrong with setting aside some time to immerse yourself in a good book.

Below are a few of my favorites (and a couple I've just picked up) that I'm diving into this summer!

MOVIES: JUNE EDITION!

It's that time again! "Blockbuster season" is in full swing now! However, I'm not extremely anxious to see too much this month (I already saw the one I REALLY wanted to see!), but there are a few movies that I'm looking forward to seeing either this month or soon after (including the one I've seen already and will see again this weekend aka opening weekend :) lol)!

A few movies to watch in JUNE:

  • Wonder Woman*
  • Baby Driver
  • All Eyez on Me
  • The Beguiled

Film and TV Adaptations

There seems to be more and more... and more books being adapted into films or tv shows -- more than usual I should say, over the past few years. It's definitely a "popular" thing to do right now if you're a producer...and books definitely seem like go-to materials for studios lately.

Acquire the rights to a successful book that already has a built-in audience (or sometimes books that haven't even come out yet called galleys that you think will become successful) and adapt them into features or a series -- and BOOM! You might have an instant hit (or so you hope -- The Circle, starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks was just released and didn't perform that well at the box office, among others).

This year, there are (around) 20 film adaptations being released. I've already seen two of them...

Movies: May Edition!

My absolute favorite time of the year for movies is award season, which comes later in the year. But my second favorite time of the year for movies is definitely the spring/summer season.

A bulk of big studio movies start to make their way into the theater around this time. A few movies that I'm mostly looking forward to in MAY are:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy - Vol. 2
  • Alien: Covenant
  • Everything, Everything

Henrietta Lacks (& Oprah)

Henrietta Lacks (& Oprah)

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks premiered tonight on HBO (it's also on HBO Go & HBO Now as well)!

I had been looking forward to this film ever since I first saw the trailer before an episode of Big Little Lies a few weeks ago! I remember watching it and being engrossed with this story -- and fixated on Oprah Winfrey. I remember thinking, "What a minute........

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why

NO SPOILERS AHEAD! :)

I recently finished watching 13 REASONS WHY. I haven't read the book yet, but thanks to my friend Krystal, I have hers to read through (thanks girl!).

I've had a constant dialog and open discussion with friends about Netflix's 13-episode tv adaptation (and every crazy moment that happens in it).....
