Matthew McConaughey's speech last night at The Academy Awards was one of my favorites (along with the speeches from Lupita Nyong'o and Jared Leto!!). There was another actor I really wanted to win in that category (I won't get into that right now haha!) but McConaughey's performance was great as well.
McConaughey mentioned that there are three things he needs each day. The last one he said really got me thinking.
First he thanked God (which I absolutely love!!) -- because that's who he said he looked up to. "He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand...If you got God, you've got a friend..."
He then went on to say that his family is who he looks forward to...(which I loved also!!).
Then he said....."My hero...that's who I chase. When I was 15 someone asked me who my hero was. I told him I had to think about it and to give me a couple of weeks. He asked me again and I said, "You know I thought about it and you know who it is? It's me in 10 years." That same person came to me when I was 25 and said, "So are you your hero?" And I said, "Not even close." He said, "Why?".... I said, "Because my hero is me at 35." -- So you see every day, every week, every month and every year of my life, my hero is always 10 years away. I'm never gonna be my hero. I'm not gonna attain that. I know I'm not. That's just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing. So to any of us, whatever those things are -- whatever it is we look up to, whatever it is we look forward to, and whoever it is we're chasing, to that I say: alright alright alright. And just keep living..."
I absolutely love that! To be your own hero ...to keep trying to better yourself to live up to what you would want your hero (you) to be -- it's a great thought and a great way to live!
I'm gonna take that with me and hold it in my heart. I'm gonna keep chasing my hero ...keep chasing who I want to be and try every day to be that person. I hope you do as well!
Today and always, be blessed. :)
