The Magic That Is Life

The Magic That Is Life

I saw the most epic moon the other night in Joshua Tree as it was rising up. I was driving and literally pulled over because I was in complete awe. Dan was there, as he always is, for my deep, life thoughts.

There I was realizing, once again, the magic in life. The magic that is life…

Passion & Purpose

Passion & Purpose

Passion is a great thing to have, to an extent.

I read this interesting article yesterday by writer Brianna Wiest: 7 Things You're Relying On In Life That Are Holding You Back."

On passion, Wiest wrote:

"Passion is such a heavily used buzzword when it comes to defining what makes for meaningful and aspirational work. When people say "pursue your passion," what they really mean is to find something you care about enough to work on consistently.
Passion is emotion-based, and therefore, unpredictable if not fleeting. If you rely on passion to propel you through your life's work, you will be constantly at the whim of it. Cultivating principles means adopting behaviors that consistently work you toward your goals, whether or not you always "feel" like it."

A New Year, A Better You.

A New Year, A Better You.

Okay, I know what you're probably thinking, "here's another new year inspirational post" -- but just hear me out real quick. :)

We've made it to the middle of January. (Success, am I right?!) I know some of us started out pretty strong at the beginning of this month -- and I'm sure a lot of us are still on path, still sticking to all of our resolutions we set for 2018. But to some of us, it feels as though life has already gotten in the way. Already. We have all of our goals and what we hope to achieve and then life quickly happens and tries to alter our hustle, our visions, our goals in some way.

I wanted to share a few things I consider and try to remember when this happens, a few tools I keep close...

Gratitude (+ Thanksgiving!)

Gratitude (+ Thanksgiving!)

I always tend to take some time to reflect around the holidays, as I'm sure we all do. I reflect on how things are going and how things have went, and I always seem to become more aware of how I need to practice gratitude more often, more frequently.

Sometimes we get so caught up with the little problems that might be bothering us at the time. Sometimes we become consumed by them and we let these so called problems control how we feel and cope from day-to-day. Sometimes it's overwhelming.

But during these times, even though it can be difficult at first, we must stop and reflect on all the good that's occuring in our lives. We need to practice gratitude as often as we can, for the sake of our minds, for the sake of our heart, for the sake of our lives...

Joy, Happiness, & the In-Between

Joy, Happiness, & the In-Between

Joy and happiness.

What causes joy? Can you make yourself happy?

JOY is internal and I believe it manifests from knowing who you are, making peace with that, and your purpose here.

HAPPINESS comes in all forms -- and it's risen up by something good happening to us or around us which then triggers a happy feeling, if we let it.

Happiness is more temporary than joy.

I personally think both of these, intertwined, are essential for a healthy lifestyle -- a healthy journey.

I wanted to share with you a few blurbs, quotes, and thoughts I've recently read... and a couple I hold dear to my heart... that I hope will inspire you... to help you find and keep the joy burning! And I hope they will inspire you to take more chances with your happy!

A Dream Deferred

A Dream Deferred

Most days, when I get up to start my day, I remember my purpose -- remember my dreams and get to it, trying to bring them to fruition. But some days, I feel burdened down with adulting -- (you know the phrase) -- taking care of my responsibilities for the most part, which is important, but forgetting to tap in and see how I'm doing -- to see if I'm still on track with my dreams and purpose.

It's easy to push our dreams to the side, 'cause let's be honest, it's sometimes easier to do just that. This happens most often as we get older...

Reset & Reconnect

Reset & Reconnect

I had a (somewhat) "big birthday" a couple of weeks ago...and I always get in a state of reflection when my birthday arrives. But regardless of birthdays, I find that I tend to think about these things often, especially living here in Los Angeles.

We're constantly reminded that we should be hustling more and more. It surrounds us everywhere -- in every coffee shop, store, and with pretty much every person we meet.

L.A. is a place where people come to chase their dreams -- or to help bring their dreams to fruition and make them a reality. So it's natural, in a way, that we -- Angelenos -- would have that mindset. But I'm beginning to fully realize that that particular mindset isn't necessarily healthy to have on a constant basis.

Summer Lovin' (& Intentional Living)

Summer Lovin' (& Intentional Living)

S U M M E R !

It's here (tomorrow to be exact), but it's already, definitely, been "feeling" like it around L.A.

This heat y'all.

This heat is no joke, and I'm from the South! :) I, of course, am grateful for this air conditioned room I'm in while writing this (and for the ocean breeze when I'm on the westside). But this heat, Lord have mercy! Lol! But back to why I'm here (and looking on the B R I G H T side)! ;)

Los Angeles is a great place to be during the summer! Aside from being so ridiculously beautiful, there are so many endless activities, possibilities and staycation ideas...that you literally can't be bored around these parts (unless you "choose" to be)!

I'm starting to fill up my summer to-do list (which includes a lot of creative projects thank goodness!) But one major "thing" aka mantra that's at the top is:

L I V I N G  with  I N T E N T I O N.

I'm sure you've heard this phrase at one point or another. It tends to get thrown around a lot. But it's a mantra I try to hold at the forefront of my mind -- intentional living, to be an active participant in my own life.

I've been living in L.A. a while and I'm about to...

Coffee & Routines (& Gaga)

Coffee & Routines (& Gaga)

Coffee has been a great addition to each one of my days. Okay, let me break it down for you.

My work schedule can be a little all over the place. A lot of people living in Los Angeles or NYC -- or someone working in an industry like mine, can relate to this. Work days can be really sporadic sometimes.

A few months ago, I started a little routine. I started going to the coffee shop in the mornings -- even if I have a busy day ahead, I try to slip in going in the morning or early afternoon if I can. This is what I like to call my "me time" or "my thing"....
