B I G Little Lies

My life isn’t perfect, Madeline...bad things have happened to me. I do understand the concept.

B I G Little Lies.

It's been a couple of weeks since the Big Little Lies  finale aired (if you haven't watched this engrossing series, check out all of the episodes now on HBO GO & free for a month on HBO Now)!

I really enjoyed the performances in this series a lot. I feel like everyone was really well cast and my girl Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgard, and Laura Dern gave some of their best work in this miniseries. Incredible performances all around, in my opinion. Did I mention, Nicole?! She was seriously impressive in this (I can definitely smell an Emmy nomination for sure).

I really liked Jean-Marc Vallee's (director of Dallas Buyers Club, Wild) direction (especially the finale)! I love the way he incorporated the music into the show and the beautiful weaving of it all from moment-to-moment in each episode (can I get that soundtrack please?!). Also, one stand out "moment" was the "trivia night" sequence in the finale--it was a huge undertaking and was pulled off extremely well! Speaking of the finale.....

...At first....the climax/ending bothered & annoyed me a lot. But after I thought about it a bit more after I finished watching it, I've concluded that I'm okay with both now (...A couple of issues that I still have with it though include the writing in certain parts because of what the book explains vs the series (like the whole BONNIE ordeal y'all!) and how certain parts felt a bit rushed and a little predictable. Overall, I'm okay with the finale's ending now & it was a pretty solid closure to the series)! The pilot episode is still my favorite. :)

So many people want to see a season 2. It was written as a miniseries, but the ending was left a bit open-ended, which can lead to more storytelling...more episodes. I can see why viewers would want another season. It was some great content (and female driven is always great! :)). But sometimes, leaving content as it was meant to be (this was meant to be a short miniseries, one-and-done) is sometimes for the best. I personally feel like it should be a one-and-done type of thing. A great piece of work, that should just be left as is---buuut I would also watch another season if the author, Liane Moriarty, and HBO decided to come up with something worth telling--and more diversity would be great as well. :)

FINAL THOUGHTS: Big Little Lies was a solid series/script, with incredible music--led by impressive performances, direction, cinematography, & editing.

Any thoughts on the finale and/or series?! Drop me a line. Let's talk!
